Stress & Burnout

Although “burnout” is not an official diagnosis or clinical term, it is a very real experience for many.

In the book Burnout (aptly named) by Emily Nagoski and Amelia Nagoski, the authors describe a key component of burnout as emotional exhaustion. What happens inside your body when you hear the phrase emotional exhaustion? Can you immediately recall what that feels like? What memory or image comes to mind when you think of emotional exhaustion?

One way to describe burnout is feeling perpetually stuck in that state of emotional exhaustion.

Whether you’re parenting, working a stressful job, being a caregiver to a loved one, working in a helping profession, simply emotionally exhausted by the state of the world, (or all of the above!!) - you don’t have to stay stuck. Working with a professional may help.

How I help.

If you’re burned out, stressed, and emotionally exhausted, I’ll first meet you with curiosity and compassion. I will get to know you and how these feelings and experiences have impacted your life. Together we’ll explore where you’re getting “stuck” in your emotions, and explore practical strategies to help you “complete the stress cycle” (another term from Emily and Ameila Nagoski). I’ll guide you in reevaluating narratives you may have about your life and what you “should” or “need” to be doing that stop you from making meaningful changes in your life.
